The Striped Mirror Project

I'm becoming Stripe-Obsessive-Compulsive.

I can't help it.

Last month I striped my bathroom, yesterday I painted a striped pillow (I'm still planning a pillow post as promised 2 days ago...it just keeps evolving.), and today...

Today I created this gold and white striped mirror!

As my nearest and dearest know quite well, I spray paint everything.

Today I found just one more way to play with spray paint.

It just required a bit of taping.

My neighbors probably think I have lost my mind. Nearly everyday I head out into the back yard with something bright blue (Like last weeks bright blue lucite lamps)...

and then they get to hear an hour of click.click.click.pshhhhhhhh. That's the sound of me running around like a newly-released mental patient with a can of spray paint.

But, oh did it produce some stellar results! (Just let me have my moment...please! This required so. much. taping.)

For those that are curious and desire to DIY, this mirror started out looking exactly like the mirror  on the wall of my office. It was just plain black, and I had 2.

So, naturally, I decided to play with the extra mirror.

I spray painted the whole thing a satin white first (using Krylon 'basic white').
Then, I taped it up like you saw above,
and painted the exposed parts gold (using Krylon 'champagne gold').

I then peeled off the tape before it dried.

Once it was dry, I sanded it on all the corners and on the raised parts to expose the original black below all the paint.

Then, I glazed it with some watered-down, dark brown deck stain we had leftover. And that totally worked. Just water it down, paint it on with a paintbrush, and then wipe it down with a rag.

Voila!! Distressed striped mirror!
