Hey guys! I have a really easy wall art idea for you today, but before we get started, I just wanted to thank everyone who came to follow me on Instagram after my bathroom makeover post. I usually post over there about once a week, and even though most of my posts these days tend to be about my personal life rather than my creative life, I still love having the chance to interact with you on a regular basis.

DIY Gold Leaf Painting
Hey y'all!
I have a quick and easy DIY gold leaf painting for you today! It took me less than half an hour to make, and along the way I discovered some gold paint that actually looks like real gold leaf (without all of the hassle of applying real gold leaf).
Because with a 6 month old baby, I have approximately 3 seconds to pursue anything creative. So, like who has time for difficult things.

How We Updated Our 1970's House on a Budget (and the living room REVEAL!)
Hey guys!!!
So, I haven't blogged in nearly 4 months. It's crazy.
I barely even know where to begin! There's so much to say and so much to share, so let's just jump right in and pick up where we left off.

How To Easily Update Thrift Store Art
Jesse has been doing most of the heavy lifting, so while he's been busy downstairs, I've been working non-stop trying to finish up the rest of the upstairs.
It's a deal we struck.
He got the short end of the stick.

How To Make Gold Leaf Art (Round Two)!
Hey ya'll!
I just got back from Michigan on Tuesday (more on that later), and I was finally able to put the finishing touches on a little art project I've been working on.
This isn't my first attempt at gold leaf art (you might remember this one or this one), but I really wanted to make a larger piece with some hints of pink and purple for the office.

How To Make DIY Gold Leaf Abstract Art
Hey ya'll!
I'm taking a break from renovation updates for a week or two. I have so much to tell you. I can barely stand the wait, but I think it's best to let everything get finished and then share everything.
In the meantime....

How To Make DIY Ampersand Art Using Thumbtacks
The minute I saw it, I knew I had to make my own, so I flung into action and several hours later, my ampersand art was born.
And I could just leave it at that, but you know I'm incapable of such brevity.
It's a blessing and a curse.

How To Use Watercolor Pencils (aka my favorite new way to make art!)
Hey ya'll! Jesse left town for a few days for work and I spent my evenings in sweatpants, surrounded by sleepy animals, watching 90's sitcom reruns, and playing with craft supplies. Because my life is wildly fascinating.
If you were a fly on my wall, you would fly away. Because you would be bored.
Anyways, from all that excitement came one really awesome discovery...watercolor pencils! They are quite possibly my new favorite thing.

DIY Gold Leaf Art
Even though my silver leaf desk still haunts me in my dreams almost a month later, I decided to try gold leafing one more time. I'm not easily deterred, and was determined to conquer this elusive little leaf creature. This time, I thought it would be best to choose something smaller than a desk, and opted for art.
Good news. Turns out gold leafing isn't all that hard.
As long as you gold leaf something the size of a pepperoni.

Cheap Wall Art Ideas: Antler Silhouette Gallery Wall
I just went through 6 cans of spray paint. SIX.
I decided I was done with antique gold accents and wanted more silver/champagne tones throughout our living room and entryway.
I decided I was done with antique gold accents and wanted more silver/champagne tones throughout our living room and entryway.
So I got some Krylon Champagne Mist and went crazy on three mirrors and twelve picture frames. And you thought I was kidding when I said I went crazy. While I was taking the gallery wall frames down to paint them, I decided to do something a little different and change out my vintage botanical prints to antler prints.
My husband could not be more pleased. Trading flowers for antlers is a big plus in the man-book-of-decor.
Surely that exists.
Surely that exists.
So, I found a few antler printables online, then printed and framed them.
Here is the final result of my new antler gallery wall!
Here is the final result of my new antler gallery wall!
I think it turned out pretty cool. And it's always nice to change things up a bit.
I also spray painted a few mirrors.
I did the one in the foyer that hangs on the rock wall.

I think it looks much better than the before. Don't you?
If you compare the photo above with the after photo, you can see that I also spray painted the mirror in the entryway 'nook', formerly known as the closet. (You can see more about that transformation here.) I also sprayed the vase a high gloss white (it used to be gold) and moved a little blue & silver striped rug onto the landing. I still need to update all of the light fixtures, but I've got a plan for that...later.
I think the lighter metallic mirror enhances the stone wall much better than it did when it was dark gold.
Every thing just feels better now.
As far as the antler wall goes, I got the idea after hanging the gallery wall of bird silhouettes I did in the striped guest bathroom.
If you want to print off your own deer and antler silhouettes, just google 'free deer silhouette' and 'free antler silhouette' and then just print, print, print, use up ink cartridge, use up ink cartridge, use up ink cartridge.
That's all there is to it.
Oh, except for the fact that I had to take all of these bad boys down multiple times to spray paint the frames different colors.
I started off with white, and once they were all up, I hated it. Then chrome..which made it resemble a toolbox. Then finally settled on 'champagne'. Now I'm lovin' it.
Sigh. I hate not getting something right the first time, but I'm neurotic enough to keep at it 'til it's just right.
It's a subtle change, those antlers, but I think I like it better than the peacock feathers. They were too delicate for that big wall.
Oh, you delicate peacock, you!

DIY Gold & White Striped Mirror
Today I created this gold and white striped mirror!
It was so simple to make. All I needed was masking tape, white spray paint, and gold spray paint.
First I spray painted the entire mirror white. Then, I taped off where I wanted it to stay white, and spray painted it gold.

It took a little while to tape it up, but it was worth it! I also distressed it a little with some fine grit sandpaper.

DIY Wall Art Ideas & Living Room Updates
I spent my weekend doing projects. All of which were done to change the color scheme of my living room. My living room has had about a million different looks, and it never ceases to change. I'm sure it will change again, too, but for now, I'm switching out all the yellow for a light blue. I also added tons of DIY wall art ideas to the room that I'm excited to show you!

It's not finished quite yet, so let's consider this post a mini-reveal with a look at how sweet my husband is...along with a peek at a few projects I've been working on!!
My always-patient husband spent his Sunday morning climbing the ladder to repaint the accent wall. This will be the third time this wall has changed color in a year. Bless his heart.
I also changed out the wall art a little with a chevron painting and some DIY peacock feather art for my gallery wall.
some closeups:
They're just some simple sketches of some wispy peacock feathers, matted and framed.
I also made some chevron art using some masking tape similar to how I paint stripes.
I also made a few pillows out of an old shower curtain. You can see how I make my no-sew pillows with glue here.
