How To Create A Personalized Baby Photo Book

Hey guys! I had a lot of requests to share a quick tutorial of how I made the baby board books for Ava (I was posting about them on Instagram last night while I was making them).

Ava loves to read her books, and she is really starting to use words and identify things. So, I thought it would be the perfect time to make her some little books with pictures of family, especially since a lot of our family lives far away.

I gave her the first one I made this morning and she just about lost her mind. She hasn't put it down since, and is just running around pointing at different pictures and telling me who she sees. She calls herself 'baby', which just delights me to end.

So, here's a quick tutorial so you guys can go make your own. I found these hardcover chunky books on Amazon (affiliate link). I bought several of them, and they're really perfect for this project. They have a glossy coating on all the pages and are really chunky...perfect for messy little toddlers. Ava read hers while simultaneously eating jelly toast, and I had to wipe it down afterwards, and it survived.

Other than that, all you need is some clear tape. I used this one (affiliate link). I bought a couple to try out and this one was my fave because you don't really see it. Any tape would work though. And then you need a Sharpie if you want to write on it. I took things a little too far and doodled all over the front of mine like a lunatic. The doodle can't be contained.

I printed off a bunch of pictures from CVS.

I also printed off some pics of animals (her current obsession) for one of the other books. You can basically google anything and find a picture of it. I feel like I don't need to tell you that, but you never know.

Then, just cut the pictures to the size you want.
Those gold Target scissors are still giving me life.

And then doodle whatever you want. I mean, I was just going to write two simple words. It gets out of hand.

I put a bunch of different pictures of family on the inside. You can make these however you want. It's so fun.

I'm not even done with this one yet, but I did start to label it. I didn't get finished with it last night, and she saw it this morning and went crazy until she had it in her little toddler hands. And now I am writing a blog post during her nap time, so maybe tonight I will finish it.
Saturday night at 33, man.

Anyway, she loves it so much. I'm gonna make like 10 of them.

Hope this answers your questions! Quickest blog post I've ever written.

  3. Did you tape the edge of the photos or did you put tape over the entire photo.

  4. In this first one I just taped the edges of the photos. And it worked just fine. I am making a few more though, and I might use clear glossy packaging tape to cover the entire photo. Ava will likely destroy them no matter what though, so I will just focus on the enjoyment we will get out of them. Probably not going to be an heirloom. :)

  6. So cute! I don't have kids but may do something like this for my little cousins. Also, I feel like you could totally use contact paper over the photos to help keep them safe from jelly fingers.

  7. Love this idea!

I have taken it a step further for my nephew, so I've labelled and decorated each page, one for each member of his family, pets etc, and I'm going to give it to him with a single-use camera, so he can take the photos himself. He lives in New Zealand and I'm in the UK, so I can't wait to see the finished product next time I visit!

    Thank you for the inspiration!
