Ava is 6 weeks old now and each day is a new adventure. As I'm sure many of you can relate, we're figuring out this parenting thing as we go along and quickly becoming skilled baby interpreters.
As in 'We've changed her diaper, fed her, burped her, she's slept more than anyone else in this house, what on earth is she still fussy about?!' Ohhhh, there's a booger! She's angry about a booger! Get the nose bulb! (Baby calms down.) Success!'.
As in 'We've changed her diaper, fed her, burped her, she's slept more than anyone else in this house, what on earth is she still fussy about?!' Ohhhh, there's a booger! She's angry about a booger! Get the nose bulb! (Baby calms down.) Success!'.
I've also discovered that sleep is now a prized commodity. With each day that passes, we seem to get a little better at our routine, and are slowly figuring out the sleep situation. For the first couple weeks she was home, I felt like I had to just stare at her 24/7. Now, at 6 weeks, I'm finally able to take everyone's advice and sleep when she sleeps. And what a difference that makes. The extra hour or two definitely makes me feel a little more like a human.
But, as with all things, this no-sleep season shall pass soon enough, and I'm doing my best to enjoy every sweet moment with her, as I know she won't be this little forever.
And there are definitely some really sweet moments.
Other than that, Jesse and I are just enjoying life and slowly adjusting to how much everything changes once there's a baby in the house!
My love for Jesse continues to grow with each passing day as I witness just how incredible he is with her. He changes a million diapers a day, sings to her when she fusses, reads her little books (even though I'm pretty sure she has no idea what's happening) and basically just loves on her all day long. I couldn't have asked for a better partner in this parenting gig.
I've received so many emails from you guys since Ava was born, and I can't even express to you how much I appreciate all of your love and support. I had no idea how overwhelming (and amazing) life with a newborn would be, so it's definitely taken me a little time to find my footing as a mom. I read the other day that the newborn phase was kinda like the bootcamp of parenting, and it made me laugh because I have found that to be very true in my experience. I fully expected to be one of those people who could find the time in the day to still get stuff done, but...hahahaha....NOPE. Turns out I'm just a normal gal who needs to take a few months to do nothing else other than focus on baby. :)
So, thank you guys for being patient with me. I'm sure this blog will continue to evolve as I do, and I'm happy to have you all along for the journey.
Until next time,
Thanks to my sweet friend at Lori Hensley Photography for doing such a beautiful job on our photos.

ReplyDeleteAva is beaty and you and Jesse look absolutely loving in each and every picture. The advice on "no sleeping" is so true---I wasn't so sure I believed it with that first baby!! But you survive and the joys of parenthood trump everything!!
