I'm on my 5th set! First a high top table and chairs...uncomfortable! Next was what I considered a retro set. Glass table with wicker backed chairs...really uncomfortable!! A new set online...it was made for anyone 5'or smaller. Then I got what I thought was the perfect set! A beautiful cherry wood round table with Parsons chairs. After having it for several months, I was tired of feeling like I was swimming in those huge chairs!! Unlike the other sets I sold, I gave this one to my second son. He loves it! But he is 6'1" to my 5'4"!! The set I have now is a round wood pedastal table with metal back chairs that have cushion seats. I want to stain the top a dark walnut and paint the pedastal an off white. I love the idea of it, but it's the feet of the table I keep having doubts about! So at this point I just keep looking and sitting at it...Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13788770898624822267noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1468383212336747161.post-16046911022830885352014-11-09T09:33:47.086-05:002014-11-09T09:33:47.086-05:00Do you mind sharing what black paint you used?Do you mind sharing what black paint you used?Carahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00359510778396324900noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1468383212336747161.post-785417524963573782013-09-25T18:40:08.406-04:002013-09-25T18:40:08.406-04:00Ditto on this question!Ditto on this question!Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07679347536502346619noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1468383212336747161.post-67137835388743956062013-03-13T00:04:33.934-04:002013-03-13T00:04:33.934-04:00I love the black table!! I left my round really dark table in the garage (I need the same table you need) and am contemplating a white farm table.

Looking forward to what you decide. I'm tired of trying to figure it out, so I might just go with whatever you do!At Rivercrest Cottagehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12068816102263605128noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1468383212336747161.post-31797098863647109472012-11-17T11:17:51.411-05:002012-11-17T11:17:51.411-05:00Dear V,

I think the black table is rich looking, since you'll still be using a area rug after you change to hardwood, you're really just adding another texture which gives the room more dimension. I think your on the right track ! I would still love the linen covered chairs.
By the way, much like you I have the same shaped dinning room and I've been through 3 different shaped tables. I started with square (yuk), then long rectangle (not pleasing to the eye), I settled on a round it is not only pretty it really turned out nice for dinner conversation and gave me the room for a small buffet. A plus for this scenario is since your table is already there and paid for... you could really get beautiful chairs.
Either way your home is just lovely and you'll undoubtedly do a beautiful dinning room as well. No more kicking tables, it's really hard on the toes.
Thanks for sharing your adventures in deco on a budget !
JamieJamiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11195473067488816127noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1468383212336747161.post-60868587234894570252012-11-16T14:04:27.146-05:002012-11-16T14:04:27.146-05:00Okay here's my thoughts. I think the black ta...Okay here's my thoughts. I think the black tables both looked really great in the space... So at first, I voted for black. But then, when you mentioned that eventually you want to have very dark hardwood floors, then my mind quickly switched to the table being a medium grain rustic wood. Something that would be much lighter than the floors you plan on, but not terribly light... if that makes sense. I also think the black round table looks perfectly in place as it is, and maybe you should just put 3 more chairs around it like you described, and call it good for now? :DDancingMooneyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12158390199317580345noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1468383212336747161.post-72613493524255479162012-11-16T12:43:24.304-05:002012-11-16T12:43:24.304-05:00Well you definitely have a gift for making things ...Well you definitely have a gift for making things work...and I like that about you. If I personally knew you, I'd say I LOVE that about you ;-)

OK...About the table. As is in black, I think it works exceptionally well with your existing things. I wouldn't be too concerned at this point about what you'll get/find after you put down dark wood floors. That's a ways off, according to your plan ;-) So the thing is to make the table work now.

"To go round or rectangle. That is the question." From what I can see, a rectangle sized to your space can work. But on the other hand, a round table allows a more congenial seating/conversation plan. Sometimes, depending on the space available in the room, you can actually squeeze in another chair to a round table :-)

Your entire "look" is basically clean/streamlined and chic. Although I too love RH tables, that might be the "odd man out" with your furnishings. That's not to say it wouldn't look fabulous! Sometimes that one thing that's different is the greatest thing in the room/home!

In the meantime, if you find some old chairs, make some simple linen slipcovers (or even canvas...lots cheaper)and you'll have a gorgeous look with that black table. (Google easy slipcovers and I'm sure you'll find something that'll work.)

I too had a table dilemma after we moved to our current home! Eventually it works out :-) Can't wait to see what you do! Love your decorating style :-)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1468383212336747161.post-22575457434855452672012-11-15T19:23:06.257-05:002012-11-15T19:23:06.257-05:00I like the black table in the space you have now, ...I like the black table in the space you have now, but agree that once the dark hardwoods come in, a rustic table would probably work better. I also like the idea of a long, skinny table in there. There are a few lovely homemade farm tables on Pinterest (such as the one from Domestic Imperfection) that are gorgeous and amazingly inexpensive; perhaps you could adapt one of those patterns and get your table sooner than you thought!
Best of luck!
